Husband kicked wife to death over texts from man, IL cops say. He’s found guilty
An Illinois man accused of fatally beating his wife has been found guilty of murder, officials say.
The guilty verdict comes more than five years after investigators say the victim’s husband, now 61, kicked her to death at their Naperville home in early March 2020, according to an Oct. 8 news release from the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office.
No attorney information was available for the husband as of Oct. 9.
An investigation revealed that on the night of March 7, 2020, the husband found text messages on his wife’s phone from another man, and then “kicked his wife multiple times,” the release said. She was 35 years old, according to officials.
Authorities responded to the home the next day “when it appeared that the victim stopped breathing,” prompting a relative to call 911, officials said. She was taken to a hospital where she was pronounced dead about an hour later.
The husband was initially charged with aggravated domestic battery, but the charge was upgraded to murder in June 2020 after an autopsy revealed the wife’s cause of death was blunt force trauma due to assault, according to officials.
His bond was set at $1.25 million, and he remained in jail since July 2020.
He was found guilty of murder on Sept. 12, following a four day trial, officials said. His next court appearance is scheduled for Nov. 12.
Naperville is a suburb of Chicago, and a roughly 30-mile drive west from the city’s downtown.
