Michigan police are investigating after they say a woman and her grandson were found dead in what appears to be a murder-suicide.

Police were called to a home in Detroit early Oct. 9 for reports of a shooting, the Detroit News reported.

A 20-year-old man is believed to have fatally shot his grandmother before taking his own life, police told WXYZ.

Family members identified the woman as Rosalyn Wordlaw and the grandson as Corey Oliver, WJBK reported.

“She was probably trying to get the gun away from him, and he shot her ,” Wordlaw’s cousin, Billy Witherspoon, told the news outlet, adding that he previously threatened people with a gun.

Police told WXYZ they are still trying to piece together what happened.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family for this tragic incident,” police told the news outlet.
