Pat McCrory will return to radio, join NBC as contributor after failed U.S. Senate bid

Former Gov. Pat McCrory will return to the airwaves with a weekly radio program on WBT in Charlotte after taking a break to run for U.S. Senate.

McCrory will appear with Beth Troutman and Bo Thompson every Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m. on Good Morning BT, Thompson announced on social media Wednesday.

“I’m going to continue having a voice of reason and wisdom,” McCrory said, “commenting on the political scene at the national, state and local level.”

McCrory launched the Pat McCrory Show with Bo Thompson on WBT Radio in 2017. The show ran until April 2021, when he announced his U.S. Senate bid. McCrory lost in the May primary to Rep. Ted Budd.

Along with WBT radio, McCrory is also now a political analyst and contributor to NBC’s Meet The Press.

Listeners to the WBT program can expect “both serious political analysis and a little bit of humor,” McCrory said, much like on his old program. The character “Dave from Asheville” — a listener favorite — is back, he said.

Budd beat McCrory by more than 250,000 votes. After the loss, McCrory likened the race to “McCarthyism in my own party,” where fellow Republicans painted him as a liberal despite, he said, a strong conservative record going back to his time as Charlotte mayor.
