Eric Trump stopped in Charlotte to rev up crowd for RNC, 2020 election – and shoot guns
Eric Trump spent an hour at a Charlotte gun shop Monday, where he got more than 100 supporters excited for the 2020 election and the city-hosted Republican National Convention — and took a break to shoot in the shop’s indoor range.
After walking into Blackstone Shooting Sports to chants of “U-S-A! U-S-A!” the president’s son yelled to the crowd: “Are you guys getting tired of winning yet?”
Trump said he and his family have a “great affinity” for North Carolina. His wife, Lara Trump, is a state native and the pair named their youngest daughter Carolina.
“We love North Carolina,” Trump said in an interview. “We won it by a very large margin (in 2016). The reception we get every time we’re here is absolutely incredible, and I think we’re going to do very well in North Carolina in 2020.”
Trump took shots at the Democratic presidential candidates when he addressed the crowd, calling Bernie Sanders a communist and telling the crowd his father calls Elizabeth Warren “Pocahontas.”
Trump added that Joe Biden “can’t get through a sentence,” and that Michael Bloomberg is “throwing money” at the election.
“(Bloomberg) has zero personality — he can’t buy a personality, so he better throw a lot of money at it,” he said.
Following his remarks, the avid hunter stepped inside the shop’s gun range to squeeze off shots from a rifle and a pistol.
Trump’s visit comes six months before Charlotte will host the 2020 Republican convention.
“We feel really good here,” Trump said of the convention. “We’re excited that it’s in Charlotte. It’s an incredible, incredible venue. … The enthusiasm in this state, I can tell you, I’ve been here all day and the enthusiasm in the state is unlike anything I’ve ever seen. And I think it’s going to treat us very well and we’re honored to be here. We love this state.”
North Carolina will play a huge part in the 2020 election — and at the RNC in August, said Chris Poulter, head of the Trump Victory group in Mecklenburg and Gaston counties.
“The eyes are on North Carolina,” Poulter said. “We cannot disappoint.”
