Charlotte mayor’s race: Meet the candidates

Six Democrats and two Republicans who want to be Charlotte’s next mayor face off in primaries on Sept. 15.

The stakes are high in the city’s first mayoral election since Democrat Patrick Cannon was elected, only to resign in scandal less than five months later. Already, candidates have raised more than $1 million in pursuit of the job.

▪ Aug. 21: Registration deadline for primary

▪ Sept. 3: Early voting starts at Central Piedmont Community College. Other sites will be open Sept. 8-12.

▪ Nov. 3: General election
