Labor group endorses Dashew, Ellis-Stewart, Flowers for CMS board

The Southern Piedmont Central Labor Council, a local AFL-CIO affiliate, endorsed incumbent Ericka Ellis-Stewart and challengers Elyse Dashew and Levester Flowers for at-large seats on the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school board.

Nine candidates are seeking the three seats, which are elected countywide. Early voting in Mecklenburg County starts Thursday at Central Piedmont Community College’s facilities services, 1325 E. Seventh St., and takes place at 17 sites starting Saturday. The election is Nov. 3.

Other labor council endorsements released this week are:

Charlotte mayor: Jennifer Roberts.

Charlotte City Council: Vi Lyles, Claire Green Fallon, James “Smuggie” Mitchell and Julie Eiselt at large; Al Austin for District 2; LaWana Mayfield for District 3; Greg Thipps for District 4; and John Autry for District 5.

Mount Holly City Council: Richard Barnes.

Gastonia City Council: Billy Phillips, Robert Kellogg.

Salisbury City Council: Mark Lewis, Todd Paris and Constance Partee Johnson.

Statesville City Council: Karen Keaton.
