What could you do, if elected, to help make the justice system more equitable or accessible?

I’ll promote equal justice under the law by insisting that judges faithfully apply the law to the facts in every case without favoritism. I’ll support electronic filing and other technological innovations that could make it easier and cheaper for individuals to access our courts.

Tell us about a specific event in your legal career of which you are most proud.

As a Marine judge advocate in Iraq in 2004, I provided sound legal advice to my commanding general on highly sensitive operational matters. I often did so with very little time for research and in the knowledge that bad advice could have extremely negative consequences for my fellow servicemembers.
