Research 2023 general election candidates for Charlotte City Council, mayor

Charlotte’s general election is just around the corner, and The Charlotte Observer asked all candidates for Charlotte City Council to answer questions to help you learn about their backgrounds and platforms.

All voters in Charlotte can vote for a mayoral candidate and four at-large City Council candidates. There are also City Council races in Districts 3 and 6. City Council incumbents in Districts 1, 2, 4, 5 and 7 are unopposed in the general election.

Election Day is Nov. 7, and early voting begins Oct. 19.

To check your voter regisration, find your polling place and see your sample ballot, visit vt.ncsbe.gov/RegLkup.

The following candidates did not respond to the Observer’s survey:

  • Misun Kim, Republican candidate for mayor

  • James “Smuggie” Mitchell, Democratic candidate for City Council at-large

  • Steven J. DiFiore II, Libertarian candidate for City Council at-large

  • Tiawana Brown, Democratic candidate for City Council District 3
