15-month-old boy steps from home’s driveway into path of oncoming car, NC cops say
A toddler suffered critical injuries when he walked out of a driveway into the path of a car, according to the High Point Police Department in North Carolina.
The identify of the boy, who remains hospitalized, has not been released.
It happened Wednesday, Nov. 9, in the 700 block of East Fairfield Road, police said in a news release. High Point is about 80 miles northeast of Charlotte.
“A 15-month-old male walked from a private driveway into the roadway and was struck by a 2016 Kia Sorento traveling west,” police said.
“The child was taken by EMS to a local hospital and then airlifted to Brenners Childrens Hospital in Winston-Salem for treatment of life-threatening injuries.”
A 53-year-old Greensboro man was the driver, and police did not report whether he was injured.
The accident remains under investigation. Speed and alcohol consumption were not factors in the collision, police said.
The 700 block of East Fairfield Road in south High Point is two lanes wide and hosts a mix of single-family homes and businesses.
