How much would Ricky Bobby’s dinner from ‘Talladega Nights’ cost today? We did the math
“Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby” is arguably one of the most iconic movies ever filmed in Charlotte.
And one of the most memorable scenes from the movie is the dinner scene, where Ricky, a famous NASCAR driver portrayed by Will Ferrell, delivers a hilarious prayer to “Lord baby Jesus.”
The dinner includes a “bountiful harvest of Domino’s, KFC and the always delicious Taco Bell,” Ricky says during the prayer as the camera pans over the table displaying the smorgasbord of food.
How much would that 2006 feast cost today?
Fast food prices in the U.S. jumped 28% between 2019 and 2023, CNBC reported — and costs are still climbing.
In 2006, the year the movie released, the fictional NASCAR driver would have spent considerably less to feed his family, which included his “smokin’ hot wife” Carly and his two sons, Walker and Texas Ranger.
Here’s the cost breakdown.
How much would Ricky Bobby’s dinner cost today?
The famous dinner scene was filmed at 17240 Connor Quay Ct. in Cornelius (which sold for a whopping $6.75 million in October, according to Zillow). The closest grocery store to the home is Harris Teeter, so we used their prices for the non-fast-food items.
Here’s how much Rick Bobby’s dinner would cost today:
Two large Domino’s pizzas: $29.48
Eight Checkers Double Burgers: $38.32
Six Taco Bell Crunchy Tacos: $11.94
One KFC 16-piece original recipe bucket, with four sides and eight biscuits: $46.99
One two-liter bottle of Coca-Cola: $3.69
Four 28-ounce bottles of Powerade: $8.76
One six-pack of Budweiser bottles: $8.99
One loaf of Wonder Bread: $3.79
One tub of 15-ounce Country Crock margarine: $2.99
That brings the grand total of the dinner to $154.95 to feed six people.
For comparison, a Reddit user calculated the total price of the meal 10 years ago, and that total came out to $112.47. According to those prices, only one item on the list costs the same as it did a decade ago: Country Crock margarine.
