A “playful” 8-year-old shelter dog still acts like a puppy — and she needs a home.

“This still young-at-heart, charming gal has nothing but love and kisses to offer to everyone she meets,” a North Carolina animal shelter wrote Oct. 14 on Facebook. “Don’t let her age of eight fool you, Viva is still just as energetic and spritely as a puppy, so an adventure buddy is who she’s looking for.”

The Humane Society of Charlotte said Viva waits for a second chance after she was transferred from another facility in late September. She has become known for being a “bundle of love” who defies expectations for her age.

“Viva also has a sweet, snuggly side, making her the perfect companion for a cozy night on the couch,” Meg Doherty, marketing and communications manager for the humane society, told McClatchy News in an email. “She’s got a heart full of love to give and would thrive in a home that can enjoy both her playful and cuddly sides.”

Viva is described as a mixed-breed pup who tested positive for heartworms. Through a program called Have a Heart, donations will help cover the costs of heartworm treatment for her next owner, the shelter wrote on its website.

“It doesn’t stop her from being her fun-loving, energetic self,” Doherty wrote. “While undergoing treatment, she’ll need a bit more rest and relaxation, spending time as a couch potato rather than constantly on the go. With proper care, she’ll get through treatment and be back to full speed in no time.”

As of Oct. 16, Viva was still listed among the dogs available for adoption at the shelter on Parker Drive in Charlotte. Details about the animal organization’s adoption process can be found at humanesocietyofcharlotte.org.

“If you’re looking for a loving, loyal companion with plenty of energy and affection to share, Viva is waiting to meet you,” Doherty wrote.
