Post offices will be closed Thursday. Here’s why and what that means for NC mail delivery
The United States Postal Service is participating in a national day of observance to honor former President Jimmy Carter, who died on Sunday, Dec. 29 at the age of 100.
The day of observance will be on Thursday, Jan. 9. President Joe Biden issued an executive order for the national day of mourning, which will close executive departments and agencies within the federal government.
Here’s what that means for post offices in North Carolina.
Will mail be delivered on Thursday?
USPS facilities in North Carolina and across the country will be closed on Thursday, except as needed for “limited package delivery,” the postal service said. That means regular mail delivery will be suspended, along with retail services and office activity.
Limited package delivery service will continue Thursday “to ensure the organization does not experience any impacts to its package delivery operations that may negatively affect customers or business partners,” USPS said in a news release.
Customers will still be able to use the usps.com website to track packages, buy stamps and find USPS locations, including self-service kiosks.
When will I get my Thursday mail?
Mail delivery will resume on Friday, Jan. 10 after the national day of observance, USPS says.
