A blind dog packs a lot of resilience into her 12-pound frame — and she needs a new owner to spoil her.

“This girl is bursting with energy and joy,” a North Carolina animal shelter wrote in a Facebook post. “Her zest for life is truly inspiring!”

Philly is up for adoption after she was rescued as a stray with injured eyes. She landed at another facility before being transferred to the Forsyth Humane Society in August.

“Nobody knows what caused her eye injuries, but they were irreparable,” Jenna Parker, marketing assistant for the Winston-Salem shelter, told McClatchy News in a Sept. 19 email. “So removing them was the most humane treatment for her.”

Philly was placed in a foster home so she could have a quiet place to recover from her surgeries. She quickly learned how to navigate life without sight and wears a halo-shaped harness to help her find her way around new spaces.

“She has a playful spirit and is truly living her best life,” Parker wrote. “She does like slow introductions with people, so she can sniff and get pets when she’s ready.”

The toy-loving pup is believed to be 4 years old, though the shelter said it doesn’t know her breed. She has been “thriving in foster care,” where she probably will stay until she gets adopted.

“She’s full of love, life, and personality,” the humane society wrote. “She’s known for her impressive hops and loves to bounce with excitement. Philly is also a total cuddlebug, happiest when snuggled up close on the couch with her favorite person.”

As of Sept. 22, the shelter’s website still listed Philly among the dogs waiting for new homes. Details about the animal organization’s adoption process can be found at forsythhumane.org.

“She’s sweet, spirited, and incredibly resilient,” the shelter wrote. “Philly would make a wonderful, loving companion for a family ready to give her the safe and affectionate home she deserves.”
