An investigation into shots fired in a residential neighborhood led police to three wounded people in a car, including a 7-month-old, according to investigators in North Carolina.

Conditions of the victims have not been released, but the infant and a woman were “alert and aware” when taken to hospitals, Henderson police said in a news release.

The shootings happened just before 9 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 20, on Wester Avenue in Henderson, which is lined with single family homes.

“Upon arrival, officers discovered three victims inside a white four-door vehicle suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims have been identified as a 24-year-old Quincy Rodwell, 24-year-old Kenya Knott, and 7-month-old infant,” police said.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that the victims were parked in front of a residence when a dark-colored SUV pulled alongside their vehicle. Occupants of the SUV opened fire into the victims’ car before fleeing the scene.”

Knott and the baby were taken to hospitals. Rodwell “refused medical treatment at the scene and departed shortly after,” police said.

A potential motive has not been released, and investigators did not release details of the infant’s relationship to the two adults.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the investigation, police said.

Henderson is about a 45-mile drive northeast from downtown Raleigh.
