Four armed robbery suspects caught when witness tracks them down, NC sheriff says
Four armed robbery suspects were captured in an unusual way, when a witness grew suspicious of their masks and followed the getaway car, according to investigators.
It happened around 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Stony Point area of Alexander County, and the witness’s instincts proved accurate, the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office said in a March 19 news release.
“The North Carolina Highway Patrol received a call from an individual who was following a vehicle possibly involved in a robbery,” the sheriff’s office reports.
“The caller reported seeing four males wearing ski masks run from a residence on Miracle Lane.”
Investigators have not released the identity of the caller.
Troopers found the vehicle on NC 90 in Stony Point, and an investigation revealed the four had been involved in a burglary and robbery about two miles away, on Miracle Lane, officials said. Stony Point is about a 55-mile drive northwest from uptown Charlotte.
The suspects included 18-year-old Jordan Ashley Elijah Sweet, of Wilkesboro, and three juveniles, the sheriff’s office reports. One of the juveniles is 16 and lives in Taylorsville, officials said. Details on the other two were not released.
Court documents report the four conspirators broke into a home, held a man at gunpoint, restrained him, then took $1,000 in cash from him. Sweet was in possession of a stolen Taurus Armas G2S 9mm gun at the time, a warrant says.
Sweet is charged with:
● Robbery with a dangerous weapon
● First-degree burglary
● Second-degree kidnapping
● Felony conspiracy
● Felony larceny
● Possession of a stolen firearm
● Simple assault
The three juveniles have been charged with:
