Driver going wrong way on interstate ramp dies in fiery 3-car crash, NC police say

A man driving the wrong way on an Interstate 40 exit ramp was killed when he collided with two cars, and set off a fire, according to investigators in North Carolina.

The driver has been identified as Jeremy Love, 36, of Kernersville, N.C., Greensboro police said in a March 25 update.

The wreck happened just after noon on March 18, at Exit 208 in west Greensboro.

“Investigators determined that a Honda CRV was traveling the wrong way off the ramp of Interstate 40 from Sandy Ridge Road at a high rate of speed when it collided with two other vehicles,” Greensboro police said in a news release.

“The collision caused two of the vehicles to catch fire. Drivers were rerouted as firefighters extinguished the flames. The driver of the CRV was pronounced dead at the scene.”

The other two drivers were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said. Their identities have not been released.

It took investigators about a week to confirm Love’s identity.

A Crash Reconstruction Unit is working to determine what led to the incident.

Greensboro is about a 90-mile drive northeast from uptown Charlotte.
