Several thousand people still remain without power across multiple North Carolina counties as of Sunday afternoon, with more outages expected to occur into Monday due to Winter Storm Izzy.
More than 64,000 power outages were reported across North Carolina as of 6:45 p.m., the state Department of Public Safety’s tracker showed, with less than 1,700 of those in Mecklenburg County.
Nearby Union County had nearly 3,900 outages, the map showed.
Charlotte-based Duke Energy, a main provider in the region, reported about 3,000 outages across North and South Carolina as of about 5:30 p.m. That impacts more than 76,500 customers, according to the company’s outage map.
Duke Energy indicated that some outages may last several days, depending on weather conditions and the availability of crews.
The hardest-hit counties were identified as Gaston, Jackson, Macon and Swain.
After the storm, as conditions permit, crews will begin assessing the extent of damage – a process that can take 24 hours or more following storms that cause widespread damage and hazardous driving conditions, Duke Energy said.
United Energy reported 89 total outages and Union Power -- which covers Monroe, Indian Trail, Waxhaw, Mint Hill and the surrounding area -- listed 948 customers without electricity.
