Charlotte could see record high temps this weekend, then a big change on Halloween
Charlotte could see record-high temperatures this weekend, but a major cool-down is in store for trick-or-treaters, a National Weather Service meteorologist said Thursday.
“It’s going to be dry and warm right through the weekend,” forecaster Chris Horne of the NWS office in Greer, South Carolina, told The Charlotte Observer.
Highs in Charlotte on Sunday and Monday are forecast to match the respective records of 83 set in 2020 and 84 in 1996, Horne said.
Thursday’s expected high of 80 will fall six degrees short of the record for Oct. 26, Horne said.
Friday’s high is predicted to dip to 79, before temps are expected to climb to 83 on Saturday, according to the Charlotte NWS forecast at noon Thursday.
The record high for Oct. 28, which is Saturday, is 87 degrees, Horne said.
Chillier weather, rain on the way
A cold front is expected to cool everything down on Tuesday, which is Halloween, the forecast showed.
“It’s going to be cooling off pretty substantially with the cold front,” Horne said. “It will feel something more like fall. It’s going to be fair and seasonably cool.”
Trick-or-treaters should expect cloudy skies “with maybe a token light shower,” Horne said.
A high of 61 is expected Tuesday, with the low predicted to dip to 41 degrees that night, well after candy is handed out, according to the NWS forecast.
Wednesday should be mostly sunny, with the forecast high dropping to 56.
Topsy-turvy temperatures are expected this time of year, Horne said.
“We get bouts like this every spring and fall, warm periods and cold periods,” he said.
