The National Weather Service has issued a freeze warning across the Charlotte area from Halloween night through Wednesday morning.

Well after trick-or-treaters fill their bags, sub-freezing temperatures ranging from 20 to 32 degrees will chill most of western North Carolina, northern South Carolina and northeast Georgia around midnight. And wind gusts will hover around 20 miles per hour until Wednesday afternoon, the National Weather Service announced early Tuesday.

During peak Halloween door-knocking evening hours, temps will be in the 40s in Charlotte.

The dip follows near record high temperatures this weekend. Officials expected a high of 54 degrees and a low of 33 in Charlotte Tuesday. There’s also a 30% chance rain could roll in from noon to 4 p.m.

On Wednesday, the forecast calls for a high of 51 degrees and a low of 30.

Dry conditions could increase the risk of fire Wednesday afternoon, NWS warned.
