Snow, ice and frigid temperatures from Tuesday grounded hundreds of flights at Charlotte’s airport on Wednesday morning.

As of 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Charlotte Douglas International Airport had 208 flights canceled and 97 that were delayed, according to FlightAware, an online website providing real-time information.

FlightAware also reported that flights scheduled to come to CLT are being delayed at other airports by about an hour and 30 minutes.

The Charlotte region received an inch or less of snow on Tuesday, according to N.C. Emergency management. Wind chills in some part of the region could be as low as minus-8, according to the National Weather Service.

“Snow pack and black ice will create very slippery conditions on roads, bridges and sidewalks. The hazardous conditions will likely impact the morning commute,” the NWS reported late Tuesday.

Below-freezing temperatures also made the roads slick and dangerous for drivers in the Charlotte area, forecasters said. Charlotte Douglas is encouraging passengers to monitor road conditions and check with their airline for the latest flight status before going to the airport.

CLT is the seventh busiest airport in the world for arrivals and departures, according to Airports Council International.

Most of those flights are provided by American Airlines. CLT is the second largest hub for the Fort Worth, Texas-based company and accounts for about 90% of all flights out of the airport.

The CLT Overlook will be closed until further notice, due to the winter weather.
