Snow predicted in Charlotte next week. Here’s the latest, chilly forecast.

Lovers of spring in the Charlotte area may have to wait a while longer, as snow and freezing rain are possible across the region next week.

Cold air from the Great Lakes is expected to collide with wet weather from the Gulf Coast to produce a wintry mix in the Charlotte region and mountains by mid-week, National Weather Service forecasters said in a forecast update bulletin Friday.

Charlotte has a 90% chance of rain and snow showers from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a 60% chance of freezing rain until 4 a.m. Thursday, the forecast at 3 p.m. Saturday showed.

The type of precipitation predicted to fall Wednesday and early Thursday changed throughout Friday and Saturday, from snow to snow showers, then back to snow and then to rain and snow showers and freezing rain.

Forecasters were keeping their prediction of a wintry mix at a low 20% to 30%, NWS meteorologist Thomas Winesett told The Charlotte Observer on Friday morning.

Despite that low prediction, some weather models already show snow in the forecast, Winesett said.

The weather models could shift either way in coming days, to either all rain or a wintry mix, he said.

One thing is for certain: Keeping your winter coat out, with respective highs of 37 and 41 forecast on Wednesday and Thursday.

Charlotte forecast

Charlotte was a miserable 39 degrees at 2 p.m. Saturday as a steady rain fell across the region.

Sunday has a 100% chance of showers, with gusts up to 43 mph, according to the NWS forecast at 3 p.m. Saturday.

After an expected high of 46 on Saturday, highs are predicted to bounce around through the week, the forecast showed.

Sunday should see a high of 65, before highs drop to 49 on Monday, 54 on Tuesday, 37 on Wednesday, 42 on Thursday and 43 on Friday, according to the forecast.

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday should be mostly sunny.
