Hundreds without power from storm in Charlotte. Check outage maps near you
Thousands of Charlotte-area residents were without power Monday morning as a severe storm system made its way through the Carolinas.
As of 4 p.m. Monday, Duke Energy reported more than 1,000 customers without service in the Charlotte area, with most of those reported near uptown and Ballantyne.
You can monitor outages using Duke Energy’s outage map, which shows the number of active outages and the number of customers without power in the area. You can also report and check the status of outages using that link, or by calling 800-769-3766.
Outside Charlotte:
- Four hundred customers were without power in York County, according to The Electrical Cooperatives of South Carolina.
- No outages were reported in Union County.
Across North Carolina, more than 6,000 people were without power, according to poweroutage.us, a website that aggregates data from electrical utilities across the country. The largest chunk of those outages were located in western North Carolina. More than 9,000 were without power statewide in South Carolina.
Charlotte storm forecast
The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning Monday morning, warning that “flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter.”
In addition to rain, forecasters expected 60 mile per hour winds in the Charlotte area, with hazardous conditions lasting through Monday morning.
