No. 2 Rock Hill Northwestern 67, Nation Ford 13: The Trojans scored 57 points in the first half and ultimately outgained Nation Ford 608-187. Nation Ford was playing its first game since head coach Michael Allen stepped down on Monday. Former Myers Park coach Jason McManus is serving as interim coach for the remainder of the season. On Friday, Northwestern (5-0) QB Finley Polk was 18 of 20 passing for 335 yards and three touchdowns.

Zymier Gordon-Miles got the Trojans (5-0, 1-0 Region 3 5A) started with a 3-yard touchdown run early in the first quarter. Northwestern got a two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead. Nation Ford then scored on a 75-yard pass from Carson Sanford to Josh Ameo, cutting the deficit to 8-7.

But Northwestern pulled away, scoring later in the opening quarter on a 49-yard pass from Polk to Daniel Caldwell and on runs of 3 and 9 yards by Quay Mobley. That made it 29-7, and Northwestern was never threatened.

No. 10 South Pointe 56, A.C. Flora 14: The Stallions opened Region 3 4A play with a big victory, scoring on the game’s first play and never trailing. A.C. Flora (3-2, 0-1) got the ball first, but an errant pitch on the opening play was recovered by Zaheem Love, who dashed 49 yards for a touchdown. Tyquan Brice ran 1 run for another score midway in the first quarter for a 14-0 lead. Then Cam McMillan connected with Jordan Collins from 23 yards late in the quarter, giving the Stallions (3-2, 1-0) at 21-0 edge.

McMillan later threw four more touchdown passes, but South Pointe’s biggest play came in the fourth quarter. Defensive back R.J. Bufford picked off an A.C. Flora pass in the end zone and returned it 105 yards for a touchdown.

Catawba Ridge 30, Fort Mill 0: The Copperheads (4-1, 1-0 Region 3 5A) scored on short runs by Colten McCauley, Connor McFadden and Brayden Wasik, and their defense shut down Fort Mill throughout the night. Cam Giffords added field goals of 26 and 23 yards in the first half.

Catawba Ridge next week hosts Northwestern in a meeting of the region’s top powers. Fort Mill fell to 1-3, 0-1.

Rock Hill 27, Clover 21: Ian Grissom threw three touchdown passes, lifting the visiting Bearcats (2-3, 1-0 Region 3 5A) over the Blue Eagles (3-2, 0-1). Broady Woolbright put Clover inh front in the first quarter on a 3-yard touchdown run, but Rock Hill got to within 7-6 early in the second quarter on a 42-yard Grissom-to-Kaiden Watkins touchdown pass. Rock Hill pulled ahead midway in the quarter when Grissom connected with E.J. Ratley on a 14-yard score.

The Bearcats expanded their lead to 27-7 on a Grissom-to-Ratley 29-yard score and a 2-yard run by Donovan Franklin. Clover narrowed the gap in the fourth quarter, scoring on Darren Craig’s 4-yard run and a 4-yard pass from Woolbright to T.J. McCluney.

York 17, Dreher 14: Cesar Mendoza kicked a 23-yard field goal with 7:35 remaining, and York made the lead stand up for a Region 3 4A victory. Dreher drove to the York 18 in the final two minutes but fumbled the ball away. York’s touchdowns came on a 20-yard pass from Tayshon Freeman to Freeman Akevy and on a short run by Freeman.

Lewisville 27, Andrew Jackson 3: Quarterback Zach Rogers ran for two touchdowns and connected with De’Adrian Robinson on a 65-yard scoring toss, leading Lewisville. Robinson also scored on a 4-yard run. Andrew Jackson got its points early in the second quarter on a Curt Thomas field goal.

Great Falls 22, Buford 20: Buford scored a touchdown with 6:55 remaining, but Great Falls stopped the Yellowjackets’ attempt at a tying two-point conversion and won this nonconference game.
