Where to swim near Charlotte: 10 must-visit spots this summer
Summer in the Carolinas is no joke, and all sorts of hidden water gems are here to help you beat the heat.
Charlotte and its surrounding towns offer a mix of lake beaches, pool complexes and splash pads. While ocean waves aren’t crashing anywhere near uptown, there are still plenty of places to swim and cool off. And if you are craving saltwater, the coast is just a few hours away — but you don’t have to go that far to find a swim-worthy scene.
Whether you’re new to town or just exploring outside your own ZIP code, here are 10 great swimming spots around the area to dive into this summer:
Ramsey Creek Park
Charlotte may be landlocked, but Lake Norman brings the beach scene right to your backyard.
Ramsey Creek Park in Cornelius has one of the only public swim beaches on the lake. The 46-acre park includes shoreline, sand, shaded picnic areas — and lifeguards are on duty during summer hours.
Get there early on weekends, as parking is limited and the beach fills up fast. It’s $10 to park for non-residents, and the beach is open from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday.
