Charlotte FC

Charlotte FC’s Karol Świderski had the MLS world abuzz in 2022. Expect more of the same.

He started red hot in Charlotte FC’s inaugural season, then cooled off a bit — then was moved into the position he arguably was supposed to be playing all along and sent the Major League Soccer world abuzz.

What will Karol Świderski do in 2023?

The creative, flashy, attacking midfielder/striker led the Queen City club in goals last season with 10 and provided moments of magic when his team needed them. Among those moments of magic came in the team’s third-to-last contest, when Świderski scored two second-half goals to overcome a 2-0 deficit against Chicago Fire and keep Charlotte FC’s fragile playoff hopes alive.

Świderski earned a spot on Poland’s World Cup roster, and residual buzz from his international play essentially forced the hand of Charlotte FC sporting director Zoran Krneta: “Karol Świderski is absolutely untouchable,” he said. “That’s not even a discussion.”

Świderski later told reporters that he’s “a Charlotte player” and that he doesn’t think about leaving.

Charlotte has already begun what is promised to be a transformative first offseason. Still, this much is clear: Any Charlotte FC 2023 success and possibility flows through its blond budding star.
