It could’ve been worse and things aren’t as dire as they appeared.

That’s the main takeaway from the Charlotte Hornets’ injury report leading into Thursday night’s game against the Washington Wizards. Brandon Miller is listed as questionable with a sprained left ankle sustained in the fourth quarter of Monday night’s loss to Philadelphia, meaning it doesn’t seem like he’ll be sidelined for an extended period of time.

Here’s why: In a departure from previous happenings, this season the team typically gives a rough timetable of a week or more before a player will be re-evaluated. It’s been the case for just about every player who’s had injury woes this season, ranging from Miles Bridges to LaMelo Ball to Tre Mann.

That was also the scenario in October when Miller got banged up during the first half of the regular-season opener in Houston, straining his glute. The Hornets said he’d be out for a week while rehabilitating his injury and he returned seven days later.

So by not doing something similar this time, it suggests Miller is on the road to recovery already. He’s shown a tendency to heal quickly, as he did during his rookie campaign when he needed just three days to return from a sprained ankle.

The Hornets could use some luck on the injury front. They’re still missing Mann, who’s going to be unavailable until the calendar flips to 2025 as he deals with disc irritation.

And Monday represented the first time the quartet of Miller, Ball, Bridges and Mark Williams were on the court together since Nov. 26, 2023. With Miller apparently on the fast track to recovery, the Hornets can only hope it won’t be that long until the foursome is together again.
