ESPN’s “College GameDay” is heading to Boone for Appalachian State’s Sun Belt Conference football opener against Troy, and that means it’s time to speculate on who will join the crew as “guest picker” on Saturday.

Reserved-seat tickets for the 3:30 p.m. game at Kidd Brewer Stadium are sold out, the school said Monday.

Celebrity guest pickers predict how the day’s college football games will go alongside the show’s hosts. Typically, they have a connection to the host school and/or the local community. Country singer and avid Georgia Bulldogs fan Kane Brown, for example, served as guest picker the last time the show came to North Carolina, when UGA took on Clemson in Charlotte in September 2021.

Here are some potential guest pickers for “GameDay” to consider:

Eric Church

A 2000 graduate of App State, country singer Eric Church has numerous awards to his name.

And he has a history with the show, having previously served as a guest picker in 2019 when “GameDay” was in Ames, Iowa.

Luke Combs

The Country Music Association’s 2021 Entertainer of the Year got his start performing in bars in Boone while a student at App State.

He remains a vocal supporter of the Mountaineers.

“IT’S GREAT TO BE A MOUNTAINEER!!!! @AppState_FB,” he wrote on Twitter after the team’s Saturday upset of then-No. 6 Texas A&M. “UN. REAL!”

Stephen Curry

Although Curry is known for basketball and didn’t attend App State, the NBA star who grew up in Charlotte is nothing if not vocal about his home state pride.

He played football as a kid, his father, former Hornets star Dell Curry, told USA Basketball.

Armanti Edwards

Edwards had a storied career as a quarterback at App State, leading the Mountaineers to two Football Championship Subdivision national titles and an upset of No. 5 Michigan in 2007 while earning two FCS National Player of the Year awards and four All-American nods.

Edwards went on to play wide receiver for the Carolina Panthers.
