Wake Forest, Notre Dame set for midseason clash in Charlotte
A national power will play in Charlotte’s annual neutral-site college football game.
Wake Forest will play Notre Dame on Oct. 9, 2027, in the annual Duke’s Mayo Classic at Bank of America Stadium as part of the Fighting Irish’s existing scheduling agreement with the ACC, according to releases from both schools. The Charlotte Sports Foundation announced the matchup Monday but did not specify a date.
“Charlotte is an ACC town, and Wake Forest has the largest and most significant academic footprint of any conference institution in the Queen City,” John Currie, vice president and athletic director at Wake, said in the school’s release. “With our campus just 82 miles from Bank of America Stadium, the 2027 Duke’s Mayo Classic against Notre Dame is a tremendous opportunity to elevate Wake Forest’s presence and celebrate with incredible alumni, fans, and partners across the region.”
This matchup during the 2027 regular season will mark the Demon Deacons’ first appearance in the Queen City since 2021.
“Hosting a game of this caliber reinforces Charlotte’s place on the national stage for college football,” Will Pitts, CEO of Charlotte Sports Foundation, said in the release. “Welcoming programs like Wake Forest and Notre Dame not only energizes our local economy but also deepens the city’s reputation as a premier destination for major sporting events.”
