Three-time N.C. 4AA champ Mallard Creek continues its run atop the N.C. Associated Press 4A football poll.

A statewide panel of media votes on the poll weekly.

The Mavericks, No. 1 in the Charlotte Observer Sweet 16, are joined in the 4A poll by three other area teams: No. 6 Butler, No. 9 Vance and No. 10 Charlotte Catholic.

Mallard Creek (3-0) will play at reigning S.C. state champion Rock Hill South Pointe Friday. MaxPreps has deemed that game one of the nation’s top 10 matchups this week. South Pointe (3-1) is ranked No. 5 in the Sweet 16.

▪ In the 3A AP poll, No. 6 Sun Valley is the highest rated 3A team and the only area team in the ranking. In 2A, Lincolnton is No. 2, East Lincoln No. 5 and Monroe No. 8. There are no area teams in the 1A poll.
