Sun Valley, off to best start in 38 years, joins Observer Sweet 16 football poll

Welcome Sun Valley High’s Spartans to the Charlotte Observer Sweet 16 football poll.

Sun Valley, out of Union County, got 115 yards and two touchdowns from tailback Ishod Finger and beat Porter Ridge 34-27 Friday. The victory gave Sun Valley a 4-0 record. It’s the Spartans’ best start since they opened 5-0 in 1978, a season in which Sun Valley finished 7-3. Sun Valley, ranked No. 16 in this week’s poll, will face another hot team Friday at home.

The Spartans will play No 13 Myers Park, which is 4-0 for the first time since 1983.
