USA Today has named Providence Day’s Josh Springer as its pick for N.C. girls high school basketball coach of the year.

Springer has coached at Providence Day for 10 years and has helped the Chargers win eight straight N.C. Independent Schools 3A state championship. The most recent came in February, when Providence Day beat High Point Wesleyan 58-57.

Providence Day has won 105 straight CISAA conference games, and won 13 of the past 14 state championships. Since 2014, the school has produced two McDonald's All-Americans -- Jatarie White in 2014 and Janelle Bailey this year -- and has also produced four of the past six Gatorade N.C. players of the year.

Clinton’s Mikayla Boykin, the Associated Press N.C. player of the year, also wins the player of the year award from USA Today. The Duke recruit averaged 37.6 points, 13.9 rebounds, 6.6 assists and 5.7 steals. She led Clinton High to a N.C. 2A public school state championship and was the N.C. Gatorate player of the year.

Joining Boykin on first team are two All-Charlotte Observer picks -- Providence Day’s Janelle Bailey, a UNC recruit named Charlotte Observer player of the year, and Maya Caldwell of Davidson Day, who will play at Georgia. Bailey, the state’s only McDonald’s All-American, averaged 23 points and 13 rebounds. Caldwell averaged 21.2 points and nearly five assists for the N.C. 2A Independent Schools runner-up.
