Providence High catcher Ray Torres named SoMeck 8 conference player of the year
Providence High sophomore catcher Ray Torres is the SoMeck 8 baseball player of the year.
The award is voted on by league coaches. Torres, an LSU commit, helped the Panthers to a 13-1 regular-season record in conference play and a league title. Providence also won the conference tournament title.
Panthers coach Danny Hignight was named league coach of the year. He led the Panthers to a 24-7 overall record and a N.C. 4A playoff berth.
