Hunter Tyson, Unionville Piedmont: 6-8 senior Clemson signee had 29 points in 69-60 win over Union Academy in the first round of the Brad Thompson Invitational at Porter Ridge High.

Jordan Stowe, Jalen O’Neal, Concord: Stowe had a career-high 11 assists and O’Neal had a career-high 16 rebounds in a win over Statesville last week.

Hickory Grove’s rally: Hickory Grove was down by 11 to High Point Christian at half, but had a 23-8 third quarter and won easily. Austin Hadden had 19 and Regin Larson 18 in the win for Hickory Grove (3-1).

Catawba Bandys: Trojans beat Hickory St. Stephens 58-43 Monday to win for the 1,000th time since Bill Bost took over the program in the 1970-71 season.

Janelle Bailey, Providence Day/UNC: Former Observer player of the year was named ACC Rookie of the week at North Carolina. The former private school state champ averaged 18 points and 7.5 rebounds in games last week.

Stephen Edoka, Concord First Assembly: 25 points, 10 rebounds in a 64-53 loss to Legacy Charter. Concord First Assembly made 15-of-25 free throws playing without second leading scorer Strah Rajic.

Kennedie Gaither, Parkwood: 14 points, 10 steals, eight assists and seven rebounds in a 78-33 win over Arborbrook Christian. Payteen Yetter (12 points), Molly Setliff (11), Giulia Belinazzi (9 points, 6 steals) and Addison Laney (10 points) had strong games.

A’Lea Gilbert, South Mecklenburg: Appalachian State signee had 11 points, 15 rebounds in a 60-50 win over Vance.

Mallorie Haines, Catawba Bandys: freshman had 28 points, a game-high, in a 58-43 win over Hickory St. Stephens. Haines made five 3-point shots and only played three quarters.

Quinten Thomas, Harding: 27 points in a 76-65 win over Anson Senior. Arvydas Jones added 14 and Shalek Campbell had 12 for Harding (1-2). Anson fell to 0-3.

Monday’s Roundup

No. 5 South Mecklenburg girls 60, Vance 50: Naomi Gilbert had 17 points for the Sabres in a comfortable win over Vance. Shariah Gaddy had 13 points. Vance freshman Tanajah Hayes had 16 points in her third game. She had 20-plus in her first two.

Lake Norman Charter girls 45, AL Brown 33: Kezia Johnson had 10 points and 10 rebounds and Alex Behnke had 13 points and five steals for Lake Norman Charter (2-1) in the win. Aleena Maxwell had 11 for the Wonders (0-1).

South Mecklenburg 60, Vance 58: Chris White had 15 points and Donte Wiggins 10 in a close-win. The Sabres trailed 47-45 heading into the fourth quarter. Kam Cooke had 18 and Brandon Beidleman 13 for the Cougars.
