How good is the high school football in Union County right now?

One-fourth of the teams in this week’s Sweet 16 football poll are from Union. This week, Marvin Ridge (No. 14), Weddington (No. 16) are new to the poll and join No. 8 Indian Trail Sun Valley and No. 13 Indian Trail Porter Ridge.

Elsewhere, Hough remains No. 1 in the poll. The Huskies and No. 4 Charlotte Christian are ranked in the top 100 nationally by MaxPreps (Hough No. 47; Christian No. 65). The Huskies are also tied with Porter Ridge as the No. 1 scoring offense in North Carolina among 4A teams. Both schools are averaging 52 points per game.
