Charlotte Country Day (1-1) at No. 6 Charlotte Catholic (1-1), Friday, 7:30 p.m.: Charlotte Catholic has won the past five matchups, which give the winner the John Cook Cup. Country Day, which beat Carolina Pride 54-14 last week, lost two-time all-conference running back Tim Newman, who transferred to Myers Park Monday.

Charlotte Country Day coach Drew Whitman, left, and Charlotte Catholic’s Mike Brodowicz may not watch their teams meet on the field in 2019. Barring a late scheduling change, the Country Day-Catholic rivalry will not be played this fall.

The Ravens are also hunting the first 3-0 start in school history.

No. 13 Indian Trail Porter Ridge (2-0) at No. 16 Weddington (1-0), Friday, 7:30 p.m.: Porter Ridge is averaging 52 points, highest among N.C. 4A teams. Weddington, a 3A power, was off last week after whipping Ardrey Kell 34-16 in its season opener.

Clover, S.C. (2-0) at Gastonia Huss (2-0), Friday, 7:30 p.m.: Surprised to see this one here? Well, after nine straight seasons without a winning record from 2006-2015, Huss is working on its third straight. The Huskies have won their first two games by an average of nearly 30 points. Clover hunts a second straight victory over a Gaston County team. The Blue Eagles whipped Gastonia Forestview 35-3 last week.
