2 new teams - from Cabarrus and Iredell counties - join the Observer’s Sweet 16 poll
Two unbeaten teams join the Charlotte Observer’s Sweet 16 poll this week.
Central Cabarrus, a 3A team, and 4A Mooresville are new to the poll. There is a good bit of shuffling after four ranked teams suffered losses.
However, the top six spots remain the same, with Vance, Charlotte Catholic, Charlotte Christian, Myers Park and Mallard Creek chasing No. 1 Hough.
Central Cabarrus has not allowed a team to score more than nine points this season. In the past three weeks, the Vikings have allowed just nine points total. Central Cabarrus plays at Marshville Forest Hills (1-4) Friday.
Central Cabarrus enters the poll at No. 13.
Mooresville, which upset a North Mecklenburg team ranked No. 13 last week, is ranked 15th this week. Mooresville is off to its best start since the 2014 team won its first 10 games before finishing 10-2 losing 35-7 to Vance in the first round of the playoffs.
