Union County star is Charlotte Observer girls’ basketball Player of the Week

Shimiya Taylor of Parkwood High is this week’s Charlotte Observer girls’ basketball Player of the Week.

The 5-foot-5 sophomore guard averaged 24 points per game in wins over Forest Hills and Weddington last week.

Taylor had 30 points that included seven three-pointers and the game-winning 3-pointer to help Parkwood win 59-58 at previously unbeaten Weddington on Dec. 10. She also had five rebounds, four steals and two blocks in the same game.

Taylor also had 18 points, eight rebounds, three steals and three assists in a 42-36 win over Forest Hills on Dec. 11.

Taylor is averaging 13.3 points, 5.4 rebounds and 2.8 steals per game for Parkwood (7-2) this season.
