Charlotte Latin wrestler is Charlotte Observer Athlete of the Week

Charlotte Latin wrestler Dean Omirly is the Charlotte Observer High School Athlete of the Week.

Omirly, a junior, led the Hawks to a second-place finish at the Cardinal Newman Holiday Tournament, winning all three of his matches by pin to take the 195-pound weight class title.

Omirly, who is 15-0 overall this season, also won both of his matches by pin to help Latin beat both Charlotte Catholic and Charlotte Christian on Dec. 12.

Omirly received more than 7,000 votes, finishing ahead of South Mecklenburg’s Kyle Sanders.
