No. 2 Davidson Day makes statement, with big win at No. 4 Carmel Christian
Davidson Day earned a big road win on Thursday, taking down Carmel Christian 65-53 in a battle of top five teams in the Charlotte Observer Sweet 16 poll.
No. 2 Davidson Day (ranked second in the Sweet 16 Poll) outscored the No. 4 Cougars 23-12 in the third quarter, which was the difference in the road win.
Jackson Threadgill led the Patriots in scoring with 17 points and iced the game in the fourth quarter with some clutch free throws. He finished 5-for-6 a the line.
Adam Brazil also had a good game for the Patriots, finishing with 15 points and facilitating the offense with eight assists. Brazil was perfect at the line as well, going 4-4. And Davidson Day’s Bryce Alfino was effective from the three-point line, scoring nine of his 15 points from outside.
While Davidson Day was able to move the ball and get most of their players involved in the scoring, it was really a one-man show for Carmel Christian.
▪ Senior forward Myles Hunter paced the Cougars offense, scoring 21 points. Carmel played much of the second half without starting point guard Justin Taylor who got hurt. Taylor didn’t play the fourth quarter. Carmel starter Ben Burham has missed several weeks with injury and also did not play Thursday.
