Providence Day star is Charlotte Observer girls basketball player of the week
Providence Day’s Morgan Kelson is the Charlotte Observer girls high school basketball player of the week.
Kelson won the tightest race of the season. She and Mallard Creek’s Lauren Walker were separated, at times, by less than 20 votes. Kelson eventually finished with 14,240 votes compared to 13,554 for Walker. As late as Wednesday night, the pair were separated by less than 50.
Kelson, a 5-10 senior, averaged 14 points and seven rebounds in two big CISAA conference wins over Cannon School and Charlotte Christian last week to help Providence Day earn sole possession of first-place in the league standings.
Kelson had 14 points, six rebounds and three assists in a 47-44 win over Cannon School Jan. 14.
She followed that up with 14 points and eight rebounds in a 51-37 at Charlotte Christian Jan. 17.
Kelson, a Clafin University (SC) commit, is averaging 13 points and seven rebounds this season.
