Cabarrus County star is Charlotte Observer boys basketball player of the week

Bailey Gentile of Cox Mill High School is the Charlotte Observer boys basketball player of the week.

Gentile won nearly 60 percent of the 31,000-plus votes cast.

A 6-3 senior guard, Gentile averaged 14 points and five rebounds per contest last week to help Cox Mill beat Concord, First Flight and Jay M. Robinson.

Gentile had had his best game with 22 points, four rebounds and three steals in a 76-47 win over First Flight in the Hoopstate MLK Classic at Kinston High Jan. 18.

Gentile, who averages 11 points and four rebounds per game this season, also picked up an offer from Pfeiffer University last week, according to Cox Mill basketball coach Tyler Johnson.
