Union County star is Charlotte Observer high school athlete of the week
Cuthbertson High School’s Mackenzie Townsend is the Charlotte Observer high school athlete of the week.
Townsend dominated this week’s vote, receiving nearly 84 percent of all votes counted.
She finished ahead of Community School of Davidson’s Emme Nelson and St. Stephen’s Elijah Godfrey.
Towsend, a senior, ran a personal-best time of 40.81 seconds to win the 300-meter dash at the Cuthbertson Polar Bear Meet Jan. 23. It was also a school-record. At the same meet, she ran a personal-best time of 1:18.82 to win the 500-meter dash.
Towsend will run at UNC-Wilmington next season.
