Gaston County scorer is Charlotte Observer boys basketball player of the week
Cherryville High School’s Lane Harrill is the Charlotte Observer boys basketball player of the week.
Harrill, a 6-4 senior, averaged 31 points and 12 rebounds per game last week in wins over Christ The King and at Thomas Jefferson Academy.
Harrill had 33 points and 12 rebounds, including the last five points for the Ironmen and the game-winning 17-footer with six seconds to play to give Cherryville a 67-66 win at Christ the King Jan. 24.
Three nights earlier, Harrill had 29 points, 12 rebounds and three assists to lead Cherryville to a 64-61 victory at Thomas Jefferson Academy.
Harrill, a Mars Hill University signee, is averaging 32 points and 13 rebounds per game for the Ironmen (13-5) this season. Cherryville started the week in fifth place in the South Piedmont 1A conference, but finished in a tie for second-place in the league standings.
