Former Providence Day football coach Adam Hastings lands SC job

Former Providence Day coach Adam Hastings is the latest star football coach to leave the area.

Hastings is taking a job at Indian Land High School, just across the N.C. border in South Carolina. Indian Land, located in Lancaster County, was 4-7 last season under H.B. Blades.

“I feel like he’ll be a great for the Indian Land community,” athletic director Vernon Hunter said of Hastings.

Hastings, who resigned from Providence Day earlier this week, is the latest in a line of coaches to leave the area for out-of-state jobs. That list includes Mallard Creek state championship coach Mike Palmieiri, who left for a job in Georgia earlier this month, and Vance High coach Aaron Brand, who led his team to the state finals in 2018, then left for a S.C. job last year.

Hastings, 37, was hired at Providence Day before the 2015 season and replaced Bruce Hardin. At Providence Day, Hastings’ teams were 31-22. The Chargers were Division I state runner-up in 2017. Providence Day won the NCISAA Division II state championship title in November.

Before Providence Day, Hastings -- a 2005 graduate of The Citadel -- coached five seasons at Ardrey Kell. His teams had three winning records. In his career, Hastings is 66-49 overall.
