Observer Sweet 16: state champ runs back into poll, CMS, Catawba Co. teams make jumps

After a big scare at home Friday, Chambers High remains No. 1 in the Charlotte Observer’s Sweet 16 poll.

Chambers needed an 80-yard drive in the final minutes to beat Hickory Ridge, which fell one spot to No. 12.

Making big moves this week were unbeaten Ardrey Kell and unbeaten Maiden. After beating No. 4 Weddington, Ardrey Kell jump eight spots to No. 4. Weddington fell four spots to No. 8.

Maiden (4-0) jumped seven spots to No. 6 after beating Christ School 27-21.

New to the poll this week is reigning NCISAA champion Charlotte Christian. The Knights are back in the rankings after a 31-0 win over Legion Collegiate (SC) Friday. Christian (2-1) is in at No. 15.
