Meet the nominees for the Charlotte Observer high school football players of the week.

Readers may vote as often as they want in both polls, until Friday.

Offensive player of the week nominees

Kevin Concepcion, Chambers: six carries for 80 yards and a touchdown in a 42-21 win over Hickory Ridge. Concepcion had three receptions for 58 yards and a touchdown, plus an 80-yard punt return for a score.

Will Hart, Porter Ridge: offensive lineman helped open way for more than 300 yards rushing in a 41-27 upset of Greensboro Grimsley. Had eight pancake blocks facing one of the state’s top defensive lines.

Danny Kennedy, Porter Ridge: Had 88 rushing yards, 126 receiving yards and two touchdowns in Friday’s upset of Greensboro Grimsley.

Shaleak Knotts, Monroe: seven catches, 225 yards, four touchdowns in Friday’s win over JM Robinson. On defense, Knotts had 10 tackles.

Will Jones, Cabarrus Warriors: 30 carries, 117 yards and a touchdown in a 36-29 win over Metrolina Christian in the NCISAA Division II semifinals. He also had seven pass receptions for 55 yards and was 1-of-1 passing for 30 years. QB Tyler Green (328 yards, four TDs) and receiver Xander Lamb (5 catches, 165 yards, 2 TDs) also had big games.

Daylin Lee, Shelby: 17-of-22 passing for 500 yards, four touchdowns in a 42-20 win over Polk County.

Lucas Lenhoff, Myers Park: completed 20-of-30 passes for 467 yards and six touchdowns in Friday’s 54-53 loss to Winston-Salem’s Glenn High. Lenhoff thew 12 touchdown passes in two playoff games.

Marqies McCombs, Chase: 39 carries, 282 yards and two touchdowns in a 56-24 loss to Reidsville.

Ethan Rhodes, Maiden: 9-of-11 passing for 239 yards and three touchdowns in a 47-0 win over West Lincoln.

Tyson Riley, South Point: 29 carries for 115 yards amd two touchdowns in a 27-24 win over Pisgah.

Khomani Robinson, Monroe: completed 18-of-23 passes for 387 yards and seven touchdowns, which tied a Union County record, in Friday’s win over Robinson. He also ran for 50 yards.

Jordan Shipp, Providence Day: 9 catches for 110 yards and the game-winning touchdown catch with seven seconds left in a 21-17 win over Charlotte Christian in the state semifinals.

Daylan Smothers, Chambers: game-high 106 yards rushing, three touchdowns, on 19 carries in Friday’s 42-21 win at Hickory Ridge.

Charlotte Stavis, Mallard Creek: hit game-winning PAT in the Mavericks’ 13-12, come-from-behind win at Asheville. Mallard Creek is in the third round for the first time in four years. Stavis also plays on the Mavericks girls soccer and cross-country teams.

Defensive player of the week nominees

Isaiah Brown, Hough: 91-yard interception return in Friday’s 42-7 win over South Meck. He also had three tackles from his position in the defensive backfield.

Liam Groulx, Providence Day: 16 tackles in Friday’s 21-17 NCISAA Division I semifinal win over Charlotte Christian.

Tony Harris, Providence Day: 11 tackles, 30 yard blocked punt return for touchdown in a 21-17 win over Charlotte Christian in the NCISAA semifinals.

Jayden Reeder, Chambers: six tackles, sack, blocked punt in a 42-21 win over Hickory Ridge.

Jaidan Scott, Myers Park: returned two interceptions for touchdowns in Friday’s 54-53 loss at New Bern.

Stephan Zayachowsky, Porter Ridge: In Friday’s 41-27 upset of unbeaten 4A champion Greensboro Grimsely, Zayachowsky had 12 tackles, a strip and fumble recovery, two pass breakups plus seven carries on offense for 40 yards.
