Elevator

Greg Wenger, Porter Ridge: made six 3-points shots for 18 points in an 86-49 win over Union County rival Marvin Ridge.

Butler defense: Bulldogs held Independence to seven points in a decisive fourth quarter in a 57-40 win. Tyler Showalter led the Bulldogs with 13 points.

Alexander Central: scored just two points in the first quarter but rallied for a 41-27 win over Watauga in a defensive battle. Evan Presnell had 17 points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists for the winners.

Logan Blair, Harding and Chase Lowe, Weddington: Blair scored his 1,000th point Friday and Lowe had 26 in a win over Cuthbertson and broke the school scoring record. He has 1,411 points, more than current Loyola of Chicago star Ryan Schwieger who had 1,405.

Riley Allenspach, Providence Day: team-high 15 points, six rebounds in a 54-50 win No. 6 Charlotte Latin. The Chargers bounced back after losing on a last second shot to Cannon Tuesday.

Bishop Boswell, South Mecklenburg: 22 points, 10 rebounds, eight assists, four steals in a 72-64 win over Harding.

Antoine Piper, Chambers: 15 points, five steals and made 88 percent of his field goal attempts in a 75-50 win over Mallard Creek.

Elijah Strong, Myers Park: 27 points, a game-high, in a 64-49 win over Olympic.

Quay Watson, Hopewell: game-high 25 points in a 69-52 win over Hough.

Phenom Hoops and Carmel Christian have an excellent schedule of basketball Saturday with six games beginning at noon. Multiple teams ranked in the Observer’s Sweet1 6 will play, including No. 1 Weddington vs. Cannon School at 6, and No. 2 Carmel Christian playing No. 3 Chambers at 7:30.

Weddington is the reigning N.C. 3A public school state championship and the Warriors have moved up into 4A, the state’s most competitive public school class this season. Cannon is two-time N.C. Independent Schools’ 4A state champions, the state’s most competitive private school class.
