NC High School Basketball Coaches release All-District teams, players of the year

The N.C. Basketball Coaches Association has released its annual all-district teams. Eight Charlotte Observer-area players won player of the year, and four from the Triangle.

The all-district teams are made up of public school players only and are voted on by NCBCA members, of which there are more than 900. The state is divided into 12 districts.

Among Charlotte Observer-area athletes, South Mecklenburg’s Senali Moss, daughter of NFL Hall of Famer Randy Moss, was named District 9 girls player of the year. Shelby’s Maraja Pass — whom Observer readers named the Charlotte regional junior of the year — won District 10 girls player of the year. And Watauga’s Kate Sears, a freshman, was named girls player of the year in District 11.

On the boys side, Richmond Senior sophomore Paul McNeil, a top 20 national recruit, was named District 4 player of the year. Weddington’s Chase Lowe, who has helped his team to 48 straight wins and a berth in Saturday’s N.C. 4A championship game, won in District 8. Chambers’ Daniel Sanford, a South Carolina recruit, won in District 9. Kings Mountain’s Zeke Cannedy, one of the nation’s leading scorers, won in District 10, and South Caldwell senior Trey Ramsey won in District 11.

In the Raleigh-area, Apex Friendship’s Indya Nivar was girls player of the year in District 5. The McDonald’s All-American has already been named the N.C. Gatorade player of the year and on Wednesday night — during the N&O and Charlotte Observer’s streaming “Talking Preps NC” show — Nivar won the state’s biggest award, Ms. NC Basketball.
