Cuthbertson’s Killian Fahy is Charlotte Observer boys high school athlete of the week.
The Cavaliers’ junior ran a personal-best 34.64 to win the 300-meter hurdles at the Blazer Twilight Invitational at Ridge View High in Columbia (SC) April 1.
Fahy also teamed with Brad Sweeter, Keenan Jackson and Reece Morgan to win the sprint medley in 1:30.23, the No. 1 time run in the nation in the event this outdoor season at the same meet.
The same, Cuthbertson quartet won the 4 X 200-meter relay at Ridge View, running the state’s best time in the event, 1:28.25.
Patrick Gibbons, Ardrey Kell track: The Knights’ senior ran a 4:16.30 to win the 1,600-meter run at the Queen City Relays at Myers Park April 2.
Gibbons also won the 3,200 run meter run (10:36.68) and was runner-up in the 800-meter run in a personal-best 2:01.91 at Porter Ridge March 30.
Spencer Higdon, Hickory Ridge track: The Ragin’ Bulls’ senior won the 100 and 200-meter dashes at the Cabarrus County Championships at West Cabarrus April 1.
Higdon ran a 100-meter dash in 10.96 seconds, and the 200-meter dash in 22.39 at West Cabarrus.
Jacob Laney, Porter Ridge track: The Pirates’ junior ran two personal-best times to win the 1,600 and 3,200-meter runs at the Union County Championships at Forest Hills April 2.
Laney ran a personal-record 4:13.59 to win the 1,600-meter run and the a personal-best 9:23.92 to win the 3,200-meter run by nearly seven seconds over the field at Forest Hills.
Jack LaPiana, Providence Day golf: The Chargers’ junior shot a 2-over par 73, in windy conditions, to earn medalist honors while leading his team to victory over Cannon School and Charlotte Latin at Cedarwood Country Club March 28.
LaPiana also shot a 1-under-par 70 to help Providence Day tie Christ School (at 301) at Cedarwood Country Club March 30.
Bryce McFerson, Metrolina Christian track: McPherson, who has committed to Notre Dame to play football (punter/kicker), was runner-up in both the long jump and triple jump at the Union Count Track & Field Championships at Forest Hills on Saturday, with a long jump of 20-feet, 8.5 inches and a triple jump of 41-feet, 7 inches.
Charlie O’Shea, Charlotte Country Day golf: The Buccaneers’ sophomore led the Buccaneers to a team title at the Fleischer Invitational at Rock Hill Country Club Saturday, tying second with teammate William Grasty, after losing in a playoff to Fort Mill’s Cam Baker.
O’Shea also shot an even par 71 at Carmel Christian’s north course, March 29.
Jaxsen Wilkerson, South Caldwell track: The Spartans’ senior jumped a personal and school-record 6-4 to win the high jump at the Spartan Invitational at South Caldwell, April 2.
Wilkerson also won the long jump (20-2) and triple jump (42-0), while finishing second in the 110-meter hurdles (15.95) at the same event.
Wilkerson won the high jump (6-0), triple jump (42-6) and 110-meter hurdles (personal-best, 15.93), while finishing second in the long jump (19-5.5) at Alexander Central, March 30.
