Hough’s Maye, N. Meck’s Bryce have huge games, but East topples West in Greensboro

The two Observer-area players in Monday’s East-West boys all-star game in Greensboro had huge games, but it was not enough as the East held on to the beat the West 122-115.

North Meck’s C.J. Bryce, a UNC-Wilmington recruit, led the West with 22 points. Luke Maye of Hough, a North Carolina recruit, had 16 points and 15 rebounds.

The East led by 14 at halftime but the West cut the lead to single digits in the second, but N.C. State recruit Shawn Kirk of Whiteville scored eight of the East’s final 14 points to get the win. Kirk finished with 23 points. Northern Durham’s Kentrell Barkley had 26 points and 11 rebounds. Game MVP Jacque Brown of East Cateret had 25 points and made 9-of-13 shots.
